Encoding
2018, artist book
Encoding is an experiment in the deconstruction of identity through the visual interpretation/abstraction of facial recognition data pulled from family photographs. Data (embeddings) pulled from the photographs are interpreted as topographic patterns and compiled together into a book arranged algorithmically by similarity. Encoding aims to explore the complex interweavings of biometric data and cultural rituals of affirming one's identity as well as issues of surveillance, genealogy, and collective identity.
